Happy Birthday Dad!

Tonight we took my dad out sailing on the boat for his birthday. It is his new favorite past time. When we got there the water was low...REAL low...so low in fact that we all weren't able to go on the boat! We decided that those who hadn't been out before and Dad (of course) would be the ones to set sail! So that meant Jeremy and I (and Mechelle and Aaron) just stayed behind and watched them sail out. As soon as they got out of the harbor we saw the boat stop and knew they were probably stuck. Here they are talking with Aaron trying to figure it out. As soon as they got un-stuck they came right back...the lake was way too low (Aaron and Mech are going to move the boat this weekend.)

When they got back we got to watch the sunset...it was amazing. Then we headed back...not the fun filled night of sailing that we had planned but it was still fun to hang out with everyone!

Our Sailing Adventure!

We started our day off bright and early (when I say bright and early I pretty much just mean early...we beat the sun up so there wasn't anything bright about it!) We were up at 4:30 am! Who knew that was even possible with 4 children and an husband who is a bear if he doesn't get enough sleep, but we did it (there was a nap involved while we were on the boat...I won't tell you who...

Oh wait how did that get in here :) At least we didn't see any "bears" on our trip!)

When we stopped to get my dad the sun was just coming up and this is what we saw:

What is the saying??? Morning red is a sailors dred??? Red sky by morning sailor take warning??? We headed out anyway!

It was beautiful when we got to the lake! The kids were excited to get on the boat. We threw on their life jackets and headed to have breakfast (banana muffins) on the boat!

There wasn't much wind when we were out but when we did catch some wind and got to actually "sail" it was fun! It was nice just to be out on the boat...real peaceful (except for the darn brine flies...we would hit pockets of them and they would be everywhere: up your nose, in your ears, and I'm sure I ate some! YUCK!) It would have been real nice if we weren't on the GSL and could have actually played in the water, but I didn't dare...something about all that salt (and the smell)...I couldn't bring myself to get in the water! The kids had a great time!

After sailing we went to a picnic area and had lunch. There was a ramp that went down to where the shore was supposed to be but of course it wasn't and we didn't want to walk all the way to the lake (we had after all just been on the lake sailing) so the kids just played in the sand and on the ramp and of course Wynnie fell and scraped up her face and knee. The funny thing was at the same time Jeremy and Hannah said that the walkway was like a cheese grater and Wynnie just grated up her face (I don't think Wynnie thought it was too funny but you can tell Jeremy and Hannah are related!)

After that we drove around and looked for animals. We were able to find an antelope and buffalo (the buffalo were even so nice as to pose by the sign telling all about the buffalos on antelope island!)

As we were leaving the island we noticed that the wind had picked up so we hurried to the boat in hopes of getting some good sailing in. Once we were out on the water the wind started really picking up (mechelle and I were down below with the kids, but could hear Aaron yelling out orders--with a little panic in his voice.) Needless to say we made it through the scary wind and hurried back to the dock (I think we'll get a little more "sailing" under our belt before we try the strong winds again!)

Despite the injury and lack of wind at the beginning and too much wind at the end we had a fun time sailing and hope to go out a lot this summer!

Gilligans (Atelope) Island!

OK, so I'm not a big fan of music on blogs but I think you need the song playing to really enjoy this post....so ENJOY!!!

The music was driving me absolutely crazy...I was hearing it in my dreams! So I took it off...you will just have to hum the tune yourself (I know you know it!)

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale; a tale of a fateful trip. That started from this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailin' man, the Skipper brave and sure. Five (eleven) passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour. A three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Minnnow would be lost. The Minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,

with Gilligan (Mechelle)

the Skipper, too (Aaron)

the Millionaire (or one day I hope to have enough money to pay my bills :) AKA Jeremy)

and his wife. (Kim and cute daughter Sophie)

the movie star (Wynnie)

the professor and Mary Ann (the genius and Hannah Leigh)

Today I went to day camp with our activity day girls. We had a fun time learning about the temple.

Mechelle watched the girls for me and when I got back they were out back helping get the sail boat ready. (I think they are taking it out on Saturday!) The girls had a fun time playing on the boat--I'm not sure they were much help!

"There is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."
Ratty (from Wind in the Willows)

Mechelle was trying to clean out the box elder bugs from inside the boat, but as we looked around there were a TON of bugs "mating!" She joked that if her boat didn't already have a name she would call it the "LOVE boat!"

Here's the bugs on the boat--you can't see them too well but there were TONS of them all over!

The kids all seemed to have a great time! I'm sure they can't wait until the boat is actually on the water not just on the trailer in the backyard!
Here they are making their best pirate faces!

Here are some more pictures...I told Mechelle I'm glad we have friends that have fun "toys"...it will be fun to go sailing with them!
